A Pleasantville police officer has been placed on administrative leave for posting racist comments on Facebook about President Barack Obama that were “despicable” and “totally unacceptable,” Pleasantville Police Chief Richard Love said.

Officer Peter Burns allegedly published the post on Wednesday, Dec. 11 on a Facebook profile page he operated under the name “Coon Trapper.” The infamous post was recently obtained by The Journal News. It has since been taken down.

“The fact that he (Obama) is still alive bewilders me,” Burns wrote, according to Lohud.com. “Go die in a shallow grave you Muslim commie...”

The Pleasantville Police Department said it was shown an image of the post on Monday, Dec. 16 and took action shortly after. Love announced Burns’ suspension on Tuesday, Dec. 17.

“The Village of Pleasantville Police Department was recently made aware of certain despicable statements made in a Facebook posting under an alias,” Love said in a press release. “These statements were allegedly made by a Pleasantville police officer. Such statements are totally unacceptable and will not be tolerated.”

“The police department has commenced an internal investigation into this matter,” Love said. “This investigation is presently ongoing. Following the conclusion of the investigation and the examination of its results, the police department will consider all legal options, including the possibility of commencing disciplinary proceedings against the police officer which could lead to his dismissal.”

Why do people insist on putting their views on a Facebook page! We all know that you don't put your personal political views on such things. There is always someone out there ready to 'rat on you'. Everyone is entitled to an opinion and yes you are entitled to shout it from the highest hill (even Facebook) but be ready for the consequences of your actions.
Franco December 19, 2013 at 11:38 AM
to all the Joe Taxpayers out there, when are you going to stop sounding like angry white men? This president hasn't done more than president Roosevelt with the new deal and SS, or G W Bush with the prescription plan B, or the civil rights law by John F Kennedy and signed into law by Johnson. But president blackity Obama sure gets all of the hate from you people, ......mmmm, let's see....what could that be that causes you people to seethe?
Cameron Kelly December 19, 2013 at 06:07 PM
"Coon Hunt" was/is a racial term for going after black men. It was used in the south to describe a bunch of white guys going out at night, taking their dogs, and looking for "coons"(black men). Historically, these black men were slaves. In the 1900's they were black men, who were frequently lynched after the "coon dogs" chewed at them. This racist "pig" should be fired with no pay.

Yeah, Paul you really don't know what you are talking about. Typical liberal I'm sure, We have an animal called a Racoon you know. And as far as I've heard, communists and muslims aren't "races". They are ideologies and a religion, or both. Don't say that refers to arabs because there are ones who are Christians as well. Seems like anything said negative against this POTUS is deemed as racist. Better see what was said against the last few ones, and basically all of them at one point or another. Why is this one exempt? Think about that one, and you'll realize who's really the racist around here. RICH
Rich Move December 20, 2013 at 01:17 AM
As for you, Cameron just because someone used a word or term for some reason doesn't mean that's it's definition for all time. Should we no longer use the word, boy anymore? Microsoft tried to copyright the word, windows. The federal judge laughed him out of court. RICH

Oddly enough, it seems that a black man elected to be the President of the United States has caused African Americans (and for some reason all Liberals and the entirety of the Liberal media) to double down on THEIR racism toward white men. In the African American community, a possible explanation is that they have shown Obama unconditional love and support and gotten absolutely nothing for it - in fact, many indicators for African Americans suggest they are worse off since Obama took office. With all that said, once again Liberals have suckered us into a change in the conversation to racism rather than stay on topic. The topic here folks is OUR Constitutional freedom of speech. Your freedom of speech, mine, and officer Burns'. Officer Burns was within his Constitutional rights to have political views and opinions. He was also within his rights to articulate them verbally, in print or online. He did not threaten harm. He posed no imminent danger. His crime is being a Conservative and having (and articulating) his Conservative views in the Socialist Republic of New York and especially here in Westchester, where Liberals outnumber Conservatives by a ratio of approximately 60:40.
Franco December 20, 2013 at 11:31 AM
Oddly enough, Patchrat, that the more that you talk the more you sound like angry white men that have a problem with a black president. I'm white and I haven't felt any direct racism directed at me because of it, and racism has had a long history of suppressing black and minorities of all types, so now there's a shift in tides and your world is going to hell?
PatchRat December 20, 2013 at 12:36 PM
Ahhh....spoken like a true Liberal. Please don't take my race card away. I need it. It's been so valuable. My Liberal existence is severely diminished if I can't play that card at any time.
Franco December 20, 2013 at 02:02 PM
@Patchrat..really should think before you speak, you just keep digging that ignorance hole deeper and deeper. If nothing else your a consistent white angry man.
PatchRat December 20, 2013 at 02:32 PM
Franco. You appear to be fixated on this angry white man thing. In addition to getting repetitive, it's not very articulate and lacks depth. Codes of conduct cannot control ones mind, ones political or religious beliefs or values or ones Constitutional freedoms in any way in their private lives. Liberals cannot even fathom this. The synapses in Liberal brains do not fire or connect on this line of thought. Thus we have an Uber Liberal in the Whitehouse, surrounding himself with other Uber Liberals, shredding away at the United States Constitution at every opportunity. Obama is a Constitutional Law Scholar. He spent his entire educational career (when he wasn't doing drugs and stirring up trouble on campus) carefully studying the US Constitution. Not to ultimately defend it, but to shred it to pieces. But Liberals will keep going back to the race card. And if you call them on it, they will pull out the Angry White Male card. Yawn....
Cameron Kelly December 20, 2013 at 02:37 PM
I agree with your point, Rich, that words do change their meanings with time. Yes, "boy" would no longer be considered racist. But "ni**er" has not changed its meaning, nor has "coon hunt". I know because I lived in North Carolina for a while and everyone there knows exactly what that means...and it's not little furry animals.
Franco December 20, 2013 at 02:41 PM
@patchrat....if the shoe fits...great diatribe. Your still angry, your still white. Not necessarily in that order.
Cameron Kelly December 20, 2013 at 02:43 PM
Let's consider what Clark is questioning. Do we really want this to be the reputation of our town? We are taxpayers and we do live here and this officer is a representative of our town to the outside world, no matter what his private beliefs are. Do we want a police officer that speaks in a vile way. Would people be offended if he called himself "kike hunter" or "wap trapper" or "spic hunter"? Would police officers in Pleasantville be offended if we taxpayers referred to them as "dumb racist pigs"? Is this merely a freedom of speech issue or is this language and the sentiment behind it very dangerous?
PatchRat December 20, 2013 at 03:18 PM
Once the Liberals are done shredding the US Constitution, ALL of you will be pleading to have it back. History is an important subject in school. This is a Constitutional, freedom-of-speech issue. However, since Americans are generally not articulate on the subject, or don't recall studying it or being impressed by it, we keep reverting to the topic of racism. And, somehow the Liberal view is that ONLY white people can be racists.
PatchRat December 20, 2013 at 03:22 PM
I'd also add that if Pleasantville residents are concerned about their property values, then they should focus on the #1 driver of property value in Westchester County - the reputation of the school district for academic excellence and rigor (not what a police office typed on his private Facebook account under a pseudonym that was discovered and published widely by the Liberal media).
Clark Westfield December 20, 2013 at 03:27 PM
I'm not sure why, but this story is eliminating the worst of what was in the facebook post. He referred to the President as a,"n***er a**hole." If you look up the News 12 report about the incident, you can see a screen grab of the post. It is a mistake to let this story get lost in politics, or make it about Obama. It's the racism that should be disturbing to Pleasantville residents. Do we really want this to be the reputation of our town? What does it do to our home values? In addition, it's wise to remember that there are codes of conduct in many jobs, which reach beyond the hours when you are at work, and breach of which are cause for firing. It is also debatable that no crime has been committed here: The combination of a man who uses the n-word and refers to himself as "Coon Trapper," wishing to see the President dead, "in a shallow grave," may well constitute a threat, which is a felony. The fact that he removed the post shows acknowledgement of guilt. If he didn't think he did anything wrong, lawyers will argue, why remove the post?
Clark Westfield December 20, 2013 at 03:28 PM
PatchRat, speak up for my freedom of speech. The moderator keeps taking my post down. Nothing improper in there. Are you afraid of conversation?
Franco December 20, 2013 at 03:54 PM
@patchrat..In this instance it is racist, and your defending it by rationalizing that an amendment to the constitution, not part of original Constitution as you misstate, allows it. Supreme court of these unites states ruled that " States can prohibit public speech that threatens public peace precisely because of it's content". In other words you cannot yell fire in a public movie theater and therefore creating harm to the public and have first amendment protection.
PatchRat December 20, 2013 at 04:16 PM
He didn't yell fire in a public theater. He posted thoughts on his Facebook page. A page generally viewed by his "friends" and followers. He didn't post a blog or write a letter to the editor. He didn't yell it from a rooftop. He posted it in a place where people could read it - OR - ignore it, based on their own preferences.
Franco December 20, 2013 at 04:36 PM
Facebook by definition is not a private entity, it's a global social network site, set up to exploit, manipulate and monetize the users info any they want . So, if a private citizen wants to keep private matters private, they would not post on social networks unless they wanted to be heard. No naivety defense here.
PatchRat December 20, 2013 at 04:48 PM
Never said FB was private. YOU used the analogy of yelling fire in a theater. I was merely pointing out the difference between publishing written word versus yelling fire in a crowded theater. Now, if you told me he drove through P'Ville with a bullhorn out his window yelling these thoughts and words, it might be a closer analogy. But again, if he did it from his private car on his personal time, he'd be guilty of disturbing the peace and violating noise ordinances at best. If he did it from his police issued vehicle while on the clock as a police office, then he should be dismissed from duty with immediacy. Clearly CNN and MSNBC have poisoned your mind, along with LoHud/Journal News, Patch, Huffington Post and the NY Times. I wonder how often you open up your mind and watch FOX News Channel.
Franco December 20, 2013 at 05:00 PM
Faux news? Fact-lite? All the news in the "spin free zone? Fair and balanced? Sure I listen, that's how I authenticate my thoughts and opinions on matters like this one.

FOX News is the top rated news organization in the country. If you did watch it (and we all know you don't) you most certainly don't do so with anything close to an open mind. With that said, I am sure that on the occasions you do catch a bit of FOX News Channel it does validate your Liberal views.
Paul Sminski December 20, 2013 at 10:49 PM
Officer Peter Burns allegedly published the post on Wednesday, Dec. 11 on a Facebook profile page he operated under the name “Coon Trapper.” PATCHRAT, DO YOU KNOW PETER BURNS WORK SCHEDULE? WOULD BE INTERESTED TO HEAR IF HE WAS WORKING ON THAT DAY.
Franco December 20, 2013 at 10:58 PM
@patchrat..you are a master of the obvious, you and all of those that " know I don't". Faux news has done more for the liberal cause than any other organization in modern times. Thank you Faux news, for all your fodder.
PatchRat December 21, 2013 at 05:37 PM
Gee Paul, no I don't know his work schedule. Do you? If he had posted it during a shift it would be front page news in the Liberal media. Therefore, one can only assume he did not.
Larry Larue December 22, 2013 at 11:09 PM
This cop is an idiot. And I ain't no leftist lover. Fire his sorry arse. In fact, fire all of them, merge the police force with Mt. Pleasant and save the already over taxed people of Pleasantville some money. I'm telling you, these dudes are useless and end up costing us a fortune.
Henry Montalto December 23, 2013 at 09:11 AM
This town is full of crooks, I was pulled over by an officer in 2011 for stopping at a red light, proceeded on couldn't see a no turn sign. He then pretty much told me 50 dollars goes a long way, I said here's my registration. He kept me there for 2 hours until 2 am. This cop should be fired. Coon is a racist term, if you're on Facebook you have no privacy. This man is a moron in fact. How can you be an officer of law and preach racist, hateful, stuff. I've got news for you, private life is life alone. That's it. I'd push for most people who have high risk jobs shouldn't be this dumb, this seems to not be the case. Good luck pville.
PatchRat December 23, 2013 at 07:00 PM
If, during his life as a private citizen, he committed a crime, then he should be arrested and charged. But it appears he hasn't committed a crime or there would be an arrest and charges at this point. His conduct and comportment ON THE JOB is punishable by being fired or demoted or reprimanded by his employer. As a private citizen, he has ALL the Constitutional rights you and I do. Likewise, he is no more above the law than you or I in his private life and when off the job. Neither the Town of Pleasantville, nor any of you or the Liberal media, get to shred the guy like ground beef because you don't like or agree with what he said and you can't distinguish between when he is ON THE JOB and answerable to his boss or OFF THE JOB and answerable just as you or I as a private citizen.
