Speeding Stop Nets Troopers 300 Bags of Heroin

State troopers stopped a 2013 Nissan Altima on May 12 at 10:10 p.m. in Mount Pleasant because it was doing 78 mph northbound on the Sprain Brook Parkway.

The driver, Robert Maldonado, 27, of the Bronx was found to have a revoked driver’s license. 

Then the troopers located 300 packets of heroin inside the car's glove box.

Maldonado and his two passengers—Yamelly Flores, 21, and Kariana Vicente, 21, of New York City—were taken into custody and transported to the State Police barracks in Hawthorne.

Each was charged with 2 counts of Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance 3rd degree, a felony. Additionally, Maldonado was charged with Violation of Probation stemming from an earlier narcotics-related conviction.

The three defendants were arraigned in the Town of Mount of Pleasant Court and sent to the Westchester County Jail with no bail.
