Tarrytown Police: Aggressive Coyote Chased Residents

Police warn as the weather warms up, coyotes become more active.

After the Town of Mount Pleasant last week referencing "aggressive coyotes" in the region, Tarrytown Police shared accounts of the following incidents:

On March 19, A Martling Avenue caller said that at 8 a.m. she was in front of her residence with her 6-year-old-daughter and she observed a coyote who “became aggressive towards her and chased her into her residence,” according to the police report. Once the mother and daughter were in the house, the coyote supposedly sat on her front steps. Greenburgh Animal Control was notified and said the state Department of Environmental Conservation should also be involved.

On the 21st at 10:11 a.m., a caller reported there was a coyote in the playground area at Martling Avenue. Area was clear when police investigated. The Edgemont Condo Association Property Manager, Jason Braun, called shortly after to report that the association was in the process of obtaining a permit from the NYSDEC to attempt to trap the animal.
