Briarcliff Introduces New Alert System, Discourages Driving Today

Briarcliff Manor is using a new alert system to keep residents informed about "street closures and emergency situations that exist in the village."

Today, a message deployed through Nixle noted, "Heavy rain and possible flooding is expected tonight into early tomorrow morning. Drivers are urged to stay off the roads. If you must travel, do not drive through standing water or drive around barriers that are closing roads or protecting a hazardous condition."

Village Manager Philip Zegarelli also noted in his Village Manager's Report today that the Department of Public Works has been checking storm sewers and catch basins to clear debris as rain from Tropical Storm Andrea continues.

"You can help by watching for debris building up over the catch basin grates," he wrote.

Nixle uses emails and/or text messages to share timely information with its subscribers.

According to a press release from the village, "The service is secure, reliable and easy to use for our group."

In addition to emergency alerts, the village anticipates using Nixle to share "other relevant safety and community event information."
