New York League of Conservative Voters Unveils "Blueprint for a Greener Westchester County"

NEW YORK --- Westchester County experienced substantial devastation as a result of Superstorm Sandy, Hurricane Irene and Tropical Storm Lee.

To help local elected officials focus on the urgent need to create sustainable and resilient communities to protect the unique history, natural resources and beauty of the region, NYLCV is unveiling our "Blueprint for a Greener Westchester County."

NYLCV's Blueprint offers detailed transportation, energy, natural resources and planning guidance that will help villages, towns, cities and the county government meet their sustainability challenges. NYLCV's recommendations will yield significant environmental benefits while controlling costs, and in many cases will save taxpayer dollars over the long term.

"Westchester's climate is changing and our elected leaders must act now to protect our communities, our economy and our quality of life," said Nanette Bourne, Chair of NYLCV's Westchester Chapter. "Our Blueprint for a Greener Westchester County provides city, town and county officials with a comprehensive and concrete strategy that will help the region prepare for the future while also safeguarding the natural resources that we cherish and rely on."

NYLCV's "Blueprint for a Greener Westchester County" covers five broad policy areas: energy, open space preservation, sustainable and transit-oriented development, natural resource protection and transportation, The Blueprint encompasses more than 40 specific actions that local elected officials can take to make Westchester green.
