No Indictment in DJ Henry Case

A Westchester grand jury "found that there was no reasonable cause to vote an indictment" in the case of Danroy "DJ" Henry, a 20-year-old Pace University student who was by a Pleasantville police officer on Oct. 17, 2010, according to a statement released by the county's District Attorney's office today.

According to the statement, "more than 400 people were interviewed by investigators in New York and elsewhere" during the duration of the case.

The 23 jurors who began an examination of the evidence on January 10, heard testimony from 85 witnesses during the hearing, 46 of whom were Pace University students. from Henry's father, Danroy Henry Sr., as well as Brandon Cox, the man sitting in the front seat of DJ Henry's car the morning of the shooting, also testified.

Four police officers who were at the scene testified during the hearing, including Pleasantville Police Officer Aaron Hess, whose bullets ultimately killed Henry, and Mount Pleasant Police Officer Ronald Beckley, who also fired shots at the vehicle.

Testimonies from "three emergency medical personnel who rendered treatment at the scene to Mr. Henry" also provided testimony during the hearing, as well as the emergency room physician who treated Henry at Westchester Medical Center, the medical examiner who performed Henry's autopsy and the surgeon who treated Hess at the hospital.

Other evidence considered by the grand jury included "more than 100 exhibits," such as diagrams, photographs, medical records, phone records, ballistics evidence, police radio transmissions; as well as video surveillance from stores near Finnegans's Bar and a video recording from a police vehicle at the scene.

A ballistics expert, two accident reconstruction experts and six forensic scientists also testified.

According to the statement, the case's investigation was carried out by the Westchester County District Attorney's office, including the District Attorney's Investigators in the High Technology Unit, the New York State Police, the Westchester County Department of Public Safety's Forensic Identification Unit and the Mount Pleasant Police Department.

The Westchester Medical Center's Examiner's office and Westchester County Department of Laboratories and Research contributed to the investigation.
