Nor'easter Watch: Rain, Winds, Snow Likely Today

While some are still recovering from the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy, another major storm is likey headed toward Pleasantville and Briarcliff Manor today.

According to the National Weather Service, there is a wind advisory and hazardous weather outlook for the area.

"Rain and snow likely before 1 p.m., then snow likely between 1 and 3 p.m., then rain, snow and sleet after 3 p.m.," predicts NWS, citing an 80 percent chance of snow and sleet today and 90 percent tonight.

The Village of Pleasantville shared a storm update with residents this morning, warning of high winds and coastal flooding in southern Westchester.

In a memo this morning, Town of Ossining Supervisor Sue Donnelly noted, "Please prepare some of the infrastructure and especially some trees are fragile. We took a tree down in Dale Cemetery today because it would fall in the winds they predict for this storm. Please prepare for the storm."

Con Edison, the utility company that continues to repair power lines damaged more than one week ago, said yesterday the high winds are a cause for concern.

The NWS wind advisory remains in effect from 1 p.m. today through 4 a.m. Thursday, as winds from 15 to 25 mph and gusts after 50 mph are anticipated.

"Winds of this mangitude will be capable of producing some downed trees and power lines," the advisory states. "Winds this strong can make diving difficult...especially for high profile vehicles. Use extra caution."

Tonight, NWS calls for "rain, now and sleet before 3 a.m., then rain and snow," with a low of about 30 degrees, with "blustery" north winds of 20 to 25 mph and gusts as high as 46 mph.

Tomorrow, more rain and snow is likely (60 percent chance) prior to 9 a.m., followed by only rain and a high of 42 degrees.

"Little or no snow accumulation expected [tomorrow]," the National Weather Service predicts.

Going into tomorrow night, there will be a "gradual clearing" and a sunny Friday following with a high of 53 degrees.
