Despite continued power problems and gas shortages, Pleasantville and Briarcliff Manor residents are finding ways to enjoy the chilly November weekend.
On Friday night, dozens of locals took advantage of an impromptu pasta dinner that was made possible through the help of Pleasantville resident volunteers and cooks.
People from around the region braved the cold to stock up on farmers' market favorites yesterday morning at the Pleasantville Farmers' Market, which drew a crowd to Memorial Plaza in its usual Saturday fashion.
While cars continue to line the streets nearby local gas station as the shortage continues, people who waited up to an hour at Briarcliff Motor Fuel on North State Road seemed to be in fine spirits. Village police at the scene said everyone had been cooperative in forming lines that did not interfere with the flow of traffic.
"I've been waiting for 40 minutes," one woman said, who was down below a quarter tank. "It's not too bad."
And though one Pleasantville neighborhood suffered the loss of running water early this afternoon, residents who stopped by while a loaned generator from the Town of Mount Pleasant was being set up seemed glad to hear there was some help on the way.
The Village of Briarcliff Manor has continued to find ways to offer services to its residents without power, including extending the library hours through the weekend and opening warming and power stations for locals.
On Saturday evening, the Briarcliff Manor Fire Department's volunteers were busy setting up chairs and food for its second consecutive family movie night. The department opened up its upstairs room, complete with power outlets, chairs, a big screen and refreshments for families.
Over in Pleasantville, one local mom decided to rally her neighbors and organize a mini Halloween for area children. Kids were out trick-or-treating in full costume in the Roselle Park neighborhood yesterday (check back soon for more on this!).
