Pleasantville Dedicates Tree to Retired DPW Head [VIDEO]

The mayor of Pleasantville declared today Stephen A. Johnson Day.

Today is Arbor Day, but it's now also Stephen A. Johnson Day in the Village of Pleasantville.

"It is an honor well-deserved," said Mayor Peter Scherer, who read a proclamation naming the day for Johnson.

The Village of Pleasantville and the local Beautification Committee dedicated the planting of a crabapple tree on Broadway in front of  to Johnson, as superintendent of the  on March 31.

The village board appointed Johnson's replacement during Monday's meeting, who will officially begin on May 14.

Kathy Dinkel, chair of the village's beautification committee, said, "We've had the pleasure of working with him for a very long time. He's been great at putting in so many trees throughout the village and helping us and supporting us throughout the years."

Dinkel placed a temporary plaque on a rock in front of Johnson's tree, which will eventually be replaced with a bronze plaque.

"This part of the job—the trees, the beautifcation and the CAC [Conservation Advisory Council]—was a joy. We had a lot of fun," he said. "This was a blast. I loved every minute of it."
