Briarcliff: 1-Hour Delay at Todd Monday; HS/MS Uncertain

Briarcliff Manor UFSD Superintendent Neal Miller surveyed the schools' damage Friday.

From the Briarcliff Manor Union Free School District website:

To the Briarcliff Community,

Good afternoon. I want to update everyone on our efforts to bring students back to school as soon as possible.  It has been difficult, I know, for all of us to cope with the aftermath of the storm, and I certainly wish each of you and your families warmth and safety.

I am pleased to announce that Todd School will reopen on Monday, November 5, but will be on a one-hour delay. We want students and parents to take it slowly and carefully on their way to bus stops or to school. Our high school and middle school are still without power as of Friday afternoon and a power line is still draped across the front entrance of the driveway into campus. We have been in close contact with Con Edison every day since Tuesday and our schools are priority locations, both as educational institutions and as a polling place for Tuesday’s elections. So we are hopeful that power will be restored this weekend. I will let you know the status of the power as soon as I find out.

Our Assistant Superintendent Stuart Mattey and I traveled the roads this morning with John Borho from Briarcliff Transportation and Police Chief Norman Campion. We were encouraged. Although many roads are still blocked, much progress has been made throughout the community. On Sunday, we will call to let you know if your bus stop will be meeting at an alternate location.

I also want you to know that all upcoming scheduled parent-teacher conferences have been postponed. November 6, 7 and 15 will be full days of school for students at Todd. The same is true of the middle school and high school if they are opened on those dates. In addition, we will be bringing students in for a full day on November 21, the day before the Thanksgiving Recess, as we do not want to take any more class time away from our students. I apologize to those of you who have made plans. And finally, our Board of Education meeting scheduled for Monday the 5th will be postponed, as well.

I do hope you are all well and know you are looking forward to power returning to Briarcliff. I know, too, that our students are looking forward to returning to school. I will update everyone on the status of the middle school and high school when I know more.

Sincerely,

Neal Miller
Superintendent
