and students will take to the stage in two weeks for the annual dance concert.
While last year's concert included a wide variety of dance types—including hip hop, Spanish and contemporary—this year has "less diversity, but deeper focus on the content of the dances and the choreographic arrangements," explained Instructor Diane Guida.
"The students did a lot of study on analyzing musical and choreographic structure," she said. "In some cases, themes did not emerge until the choreography was perhaps 2/3 of the way completed. The styles are primarily modern/lyrical, a few flashes of hip hop and some 'pop' styles."
About 70 total students will perform in the concert, ranging from grades six to 12—all members of the daily dance classes and after school dance clubs the district offers.
Tickets to the Friday, May 18 and Saturday, May 19 7 p.m. shows are $12 in advance by calling 866-967-8167. Tickets purchased at the door will cost $15.
