The Fund for Learning presented 10 "Excellence in Learning" grants for the 2011—12 academic year during the June 14 Board of Education meeting in Pleasantville.
Grant Co-Chairs Veronica Costanza and Lisa Ultan revealed the grant requests totaled nearly $45,000.
"With roughly $25,000 to allocate toward grant requests, the Fund for Learning decided to reach out to other organizations in the community and asked them to partner with us to fulfill as many worth requests as possible," revealed Ultan.
With the help of the Parent Teacher Association, Parent Teacher Association, Parent Council, Special Education Parent Teacher Association (SEPTA) and the Friends of the Performing Arts, the Fund for Learning was able to award $32,723 in grants for the coming year.
"I think this kind of partnership really underscores the kind of community that we live in," said Ultan, "and the fact that we were all able to come together to do as much as possible for our students is something we're all very proud of."
