Ossining Teacher Pleads Guilty in Student Rape Case

The Port Chester man will never teach again and will become a registered sex offender, officials said.

Village of Ossining Police have confirmed the teacher their department arrested in July—on the very day he was meant to be married—has pled guilty to charges of raping a 16-year-old student.

John Azabache, 31 of Port Chester, an Ossining High School teacher who since his arrest has been banned from school grounds, "pled guilty to rape in the third in County Court," Lt. William Sullivan said. "His sentencing is October 10."

Azabache's lawyer Tony Castro in an interview with Lohud.com said his client had apologized to the people affected for a sexual act that was allegedly not forced. Even if the sex is consensual, it's legally considered rape with someone under the age of 17. Azabache admitted to one instance of having sex with the underage teen after being accused of two.

It is anticipated he will be required to register as a sex offender, serve 10 years probation and never teach again at his sentencing. Castro told LoHud Azabache will now struggle to “reinvent” himself, likely by working with computers.
