The following is from Atria Senior Living in Briarcliff Manor:
Six students from a Pace University sorority volunteered their time last Monday night to come to the Atria and join our residents for dinner. Each student sat at one of the Atria dining tables and made conversation with the residents about Thanksgiving, past holiday memories and discussions about their families.
After dinner was finished, the students volunteered at a dessert station and served the residents assorted pies and cakes.
The intergenerational program was a big success with the residents and students as both groups enjoyed connecting with each other.
Atria resident Anne Marie Schurer said of the event, “[The students] were nice. They gave up their free time to come and probably learned something from us.”
Atria resident Ruth Feldman said of the intergenerational program, “It was nice. I enjoyed spending time with these girls and making conversation.”
The students from the sorority said they enjoyed being with the residents and asked when they could return to help out.
