Ranno Resigns from Briarcliff School Board, Replacement Sought

The Briarcliff Manor school board also named its annual officers on Monday.

Former Board Vice President Rosella Ranno has resigned from her post.

The resignation is effective as of June 30, two days before two new trustees were sworn onto the school board.

Ranno was not immediately available to comment on her decision.

On Monday, the school board held its annual organizational meeting where were sworn into office.

Also last night, the board unanimously voted to appoint Sal Maglieta as president for the 2012-13 year. He is the most senior member of the current board, with his three-year term ending June 30, 2013.

Guy Rotondo, who did not run for re-election this year, previously served as president.

Jennifer Rosen, who was elected to the board in 2011, was unanimously chosen as vice president yesterday.

Rosen succeeds Ranno as board vice president.

The board of education is now looking for a community member to replace Ranno. According to a letter from the district, her replacement "will conclude at the time of the Annual Meeting (school district election) on May 21, 2013."

The qualifications for school board trustees are:

a) must be a citizen of the United States;

b) must be at least eighteen (18) years of age;

c) must be able to read and write;

d) must be a legal resident for at least (1) year prior to the election; and

e) Must not be an employee of the Briarcliff Manor Union Free School District
