Science Fair Students Awe Judges in Sleepy Hollow

A huge effort spanning three years of their high school career brought students to the Westchester Science and Engineering Fair.

The gymnasiums of the Sleepy Hollow High School were buzzing on Saturday with:

  • 337 student presenters judged six times during 12 judging periods in the course of the day by
  • 250 adult judges,
  • bolstered by 25-30 teacher volunteers and about 50 student volunteers,
  • all hailing from 33 schools represented from all over Westchester and Putnam Counties.

Three years of these students' high school careers spent researching with a mentor culminates in this amazing day. The enthusiasm, poise and expertise of these students quickly shines through in this video, along with the great dedication of these volunteer judges.

In the video meet: Hannah Schriber of Mamamoreneck, Rebecca Barnett of Armonk, Marisilio Langella of Mahopac, Matt Wrubel and Erik Santini of Yorktown, along with judge Bob Weireter of Ossining who works with Swiss Re.

"It's a huge event," said Weireter. "It's fun that it's growing out of control. It's wonderful that kids get connected with so many mentors and fabulous opportunities."

Sleepy Hollow’s own veterinarian was among the judges. Brian Green wrote on Facebook following the event:

Had a blast judging the incredible students participating in the Westchester Science and Engineering Fair (WESEF) at Sleepy Hollow High School. The projects were very well thought out, the kids were calm in their presentation, and clearly represented the cream of the cream in Weschtester science. Very grateful for the opportunity to participate, along with Mike Witkowski and some 200 other individuals. Thank you Regeneron, Psychogenics, and all the other sponsors that gave these hard working kids a chance to demonstrate how bright they truly are!
