administrators and local officials spoke highly of Lisa Rodriguez, an eight-year staff member, winner of the 2012 Teacher of the Year award, at Tuesday's board of education meeting.
"I'm just stunned," said Rodriguez, who currently works as 's curriculum coordinator. "I'm rarely at a loss for words."
She was completely surprised as the entire BRS staff and her family popped out of the computer lab and applauded her, alongside the board of education and administration.
Said Superintendent Mary Fox-Alter, "Lisa's love and expertise of math and literacy provides an enriching foundation for the lifelong educational journeys of all of our students."

Westchester County Legislator Michael Smith (R-District 3) and Pleasantville Mayor Peter Scherer each presented Rodriguez with a declaration marking April 24 and 25, respectively, as Lisa Rodriguez Day in the county and village.
Both Rodriguez and BRS Principal Peggy Galotti became a little emotional during the evening's proceedings.
"I couldn't be more fortunate to work in a district like this," said Rodriguez. "Today is probably one of the most honored events of my life."
