Student Council members planted two bushes donated to 's outdoor basketball court by staff members Monday morning.
A new plaque lies between the two bushes, memoralizing the area as a symbol of remembrance for 9/11/01.
Andrea Garbarini, whose husband Lt. Charles Gabarini of the FDNY perished on Sept. 11, 2001, encouraged students at Monday's service to learn from history and give back to their community.
Garbarini donated funds to the school to help upgrade the court in 2005.
District Superintendent Mary Fox-Alter offered a similar message to the student body, while Principal Vivian Ossowski declared September a month of service. Each student must perform a service to the community, she said.
