I Pinned It and I Tried it... Homemade Moisturizing Body Scrub!

Do you pin things in Pinterest and never actually make them? Well maybe this will inspire you to try!

If you adore Pinterest as much as I do, then you are likely pinning ideas to your pinboards all of the time. But how often do you actually try to cook, craft, or create something that you pinned on Pinterest? Well- please allow this to be your own personal call to action to try!

This week I decided to make this homemade moisturizing body scrub that I featured this past weekend on my Links to Love post, and pinned too!

This simple homemade body scrub contains only 4 ingredients.... shea butter, coconut oil, olive oil, and brown sugar. (Check out the recipe above for exact measurements!)

I decided to soften my shea butter in the microwave in a glass measuring cup, the same way that I melt chocolate- by heating for just 20 seconds at a time, and then stirring to properly distribute the heat. I then scooped the softened shea butter into my mixing bowl and whipped it at high speed for about 5 minutes, stopping to scrape down the side of the bowl every so often. Sadly, my shea butter never achieved the fluffy status that Mindy's did in the original post.... but I pressed on.

Next I melted my coconut oil (it's kind of funny that coconut oil actually comes packaged in a solid form, isn't it?), and then stirred in my olive oil, before slowly drizzling the mixture into my whipped (yet not fluffy) shea butter. And then I again whipped that for a few minutes, scraping the bowl occasionally throughout.

I then mixed in the brown sugar and then poured my new body scrub into a pretty glass container. And I have to say... even though my body scrub did not ever achieve the same fluffy consistency as Mindy's, it is still incredibly decadent to use- and it leaves my skin soft and moisturized all day! I love it! (But word of warning- a little bit goes a long way..... don't apply to much or you will come out of the shower looking like a greased pig!)

I recently bought at The Farmers Market a natural soap from a Lavender farm. Made with coconut oil, Olive oil Palm oil, and Lavender Oil. It is so nice without the harsh chemicals in regular soap but is great for a fresh clean feeling. I have done a lot of research on coconut oil Joan McDaniel http://coconutcreamcare.com
