Briarcliff 11u Baseball Wins District Title

The Bears moved on to play District 17 champion Wappinger Falls Monday.

The following is from Briarcliff Manor's 11U baseball team:

The Briarcliff Bears 11u baseball team won the District 33 title on Thursday July 9 with a hard fought victory against a stellar Cortlandt American team, 11-8, behind the solid pitching of starter Charlie Hite and reliever Brett Ostrover.

Offensively, Chris Park led the way with three doubles and five RBIs, and outfielder Jack Dorkin had a key RBI single to help the cause.

The next night they began the Section 4 Tournament and came up on the short end of a slugfest, losing to Orange County's Pine Bush, 26-14. The game saw 11 home runs, catcher Michael Hardy and Park each having two, while outfielder Julian Matthews added one of his own. Defensively outfielder Ryan Panitz played extremely well, as did third baseman Matt Zampolin.

And then on Sunday, July 14, the Bears battled a strong New Rochelle team, leading 2-0 in the bottom of the last inning before New Rochelle tied the game...the Bears responded in the top of the 7th with the go ahead run driven in on a sac fly by second baseman Aidan Healy, followed by a key two RBI double by outfielder Joe Scanga. Shortstop Jacob Lazarus added important RBIs on two different occasions and ended the game with a dazzling double play, with the Bears winning 8-3.

And last but not least, outfielder Aidan Cooleen collected the game ball for his clutch RBI double in the 4th which got the Bears on the board.
