Briarcliff Teen Wins Junior Curling Championship

Briarcliff 15-year-old Andrew Stopera contributes to Grand National Curling Club championship win.

Andrew Stopera spent part of his winter break making a name for his curling team, the Dunnams, in the Grand National Curling Club (GNCC) junior championships.

The 15-year-old's team faced off against the McMakin squad for the second time in the GNCC men's final in Maryland, winning again—this time, 12-5.

The Dunnams came out on top of the 10 men's teams that competed from December 26 to 30.

"Skipped by Scott Dunnam (Philadelphia Curling Club), this team also includes vice Andrew Stopera (Ardsley Curling Club), second Steven Szemple (Plainfield Curling Club), and lead Andrew Dunnam (Philadelphia Curling Club)," according to the GNCC website.

A winning tradition in curling runs in the family for Stopera. Click here to read about Briarcliff Manor's Bill Stopera, one of two Westchester men on the 2012 USA Curling National winning team in early 2012.
