Pace Breezes by Assumption in NE-10 Quarterfinals 60-50

We thank the Sports Information Department for the below submisison:

PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y.- The Pace women’s basketball team took the win over the Greyhounds of Assumption College in the Quarterfinals of the Northeast-10 Championship Tournament, 60-50.  Pace advances their record to 20-7 overall, while Assumption finishes off 17-10.

The Setters went on an 8-0 run in the first four minutes to start the game off.  The Greyhounds chipped away and took their first lead of the game at 11:47, by one point at 12-11.  A triple by Kerri White (Flushing, NY/Archbishop Molloy) put the Setters back in the lead, where they held the lead for the rest of the half.  Pace went up by as much as 11, but Assumption answered in the last 30 seconds as the Setters led at the break at 34-25.

The Setters held a substantial lead the entire second half, not letting the Greyhounds come within more than nine points.  Pace took their largest lead at 20 point with 8:47 to play in the game on a triple from White.  The Greyhounds managed to come within ten with 2:36 to go but were unable to lessen the point margin any further.  The Setters went back up by 13 with 2:14 left, while Assumption tried to hold on but were only able to come within ten as the clock ran out.

The Setters finished the game shooting 43% from the field, 50% from three point range and 55.6% from the foul line.  With the help of the full court press, the Setters were able to force the Greyhounds to turn the ball over 21 times.  The Greyhounds rounded out at 40.8% from the field, 25% from the outside and 60% from the line.

Kelly Meredith led the Greyhounds with 14 points, six rebounds and five assists.  Gabrielle Gibson finished with 12 points and five rebounds while Jamie Insel contributed ten points, four rebounds and four assists.

The win gave Head Coach Carrie Seymour her 12th season with 20 or more win out of her 20 seasons coaching at Pace as she has guided the Setters to three consecutive 20-win seasons. In program history, it marks the 21st season with 20 wins out of 34 seasons of women’s basketball at Pace.

Four Setters hit double digits as Brittany Shields (Cold Spring, NY/Haldane) led the way with 14 rebounds while adding nine points and three assists. White finished with 12 points, six rebounds and six steals while Carol Johnson(New City, NY/Cardinal Spellman) and Brianna Harris (Brentwood, NY/Mary Louis Academy) both contributed 11 points each.
