Briarcliff's Blevins Contributes to Boulders Home Opener Win
The Rockland County-based team won opening night, 8-4.
The Rockland Boulders opened things up at Provident Bank Park Tuesday night with a big 8-4 win over the Newark Bears.
Briarcliff Manor's Bobby Blevins had a solid outing to kick off the 2012 season in Rockland. Blevins allowed four earned runs over 6.2 innings, but it was Suffern-native Ryan Mollica who stole the show at the home opener.
“[Mollica] is just a clutch hitter,” said Blevins. “When it comes down to it, if you need someone to step up and get a bit hit he’s there. He thrives in those situations.”

Mollica drilled a 3-run home run in the bottom of the third inning to give the Boulders a 5-2 lead. In Mollica’s 6th inning at bat, he ripped a low line drive that just snuck over the “Short Poarch” in right, adding to the Boulders lead.
“I hit a couple balls hit well in Quebec that were caught,” said Mollica. “I don’t know, I just felt comfortable coming into today. It’s nice to be home in front of your own fans. I hit one really well tonight and the other was just a hard line drive. I’ll take runs any way we can get them.”
