Johnson leads Bears

Tyriek Johnson and his Briarcliff boys basketball teammates were as well attempting to reach the sectional Final Four.

Johnson did all he could to make that happen as he had a team-high 14 points in Briarcliff's 69-51 loss at Albertus Magnus in the Section 1 Class B quarterfinals Feb. 22.

Pleasantville boys hoops

Pleasantville's boys basketball squad was also looking for a date at the county center.

The Panthers hosted Blind Brook Feb. 22 in a Section 1 Class B quarterfinal looking to earn that trip to White Plains but lost a heartbreaker 43-42.

With the Panthers up by one, Blind Brook's Sam Adler hit the winning free throws with 1.5 seconds remaining.

Besides having a county center berth on the line, the game was also a battle of brothers as Blind Brook coach Mike Welsh went against his younger brother, Pleasantville coach Chris Welsh. Their mother sat with Mike’s family, including his children.
