Dyl Leads Pace Women's Soccer to Victory

Dyl nets four points as Setters hold off Merrimack in thriller.

BRIARCLIFF, N.Y.- Allyson Dyl (Kearny, NJ/Kearny) netted a goal and two assists in the first half as the Setters held off a late rally by Merrimack to take a 3-2 victory over the visiting Warriors. The Setters improve their mark to 2-2-2 overall and 2-1-0 in the Northeast-10 Conference, while the Warriors fall to 4-2-0 and 2-1-0 in conference play.

The Setters got their offense charged up in the first half as Dyl booted in a rebound at the 11:41 mark to give Pace an early 1-0 advantage. Pace capitalized on a corner kick as Jillian Ferro(Warwick, NY/Warwick Valley) headed in Pace's second goal of the day off a Dyl kick for a 2-0 Setter lead at the 30:47 mark. The Setters added another goal three minutes later as Geena Kooner (Hopewell Junction, NY/John Jay) scored off a Dyl assist as Pace headed into halftime leading 3-0.

Merrimack rallied in the second half as the Warriors' Danielle Dion netted a pair of goals with the second coming with just under eight minutes to play in the game. The Warriors had three corner kicks in the final eight minutes and a pair of shots which featured a clutch save by Setter goalieCourtany Hagen (New Paltz, NY/New Paltz) with 25 seconds remaining in the game that sealed the victory for Pace. Hagen finished with 10 saves in the game.

The Setters return to action on Tuesday, September 18 when they will travel to Worcester, MA for a Northeast-10 Conference game against Assumption College at 3:30 pm.
