Four Pace Baseball Players Named to All-Conference Teams

Pace's baseball team is preparing for Sunday's NCAA Division II Tournament selection.

PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y.- The Northeast-10 Conference Baseball Coaches selected four players to the All-Conference teams as junior designated hitter James Pjura (Shelton, CT/Shelton), senior outfielder Charlie Galasso (West Harrison, NY/Harrison), senior outfielder Brandon Martineson (Prospect, KY/Warwick) and freshman outfielder Michael Viegas (Staten Island, NY / Monsignor Farrell) garnered top honors. Pjura was named to the First Team, Galasso to the Second Team, Martineson to the Third Team, while Viegas was named to the All-Rookie Team.

Pjura was named to his third straight all-conference team after being named to the All-Rookie Team in 2011 and the Third Team in 2012. He is the top-10 in the NE-10 in five major offensive categories, ranking ninth in the runs, fourth in doubles, fifth in triples, homeruns and slugging percentage. On the season, he has posted a .311 batting average, with five homeruns, four triples, 16 doubles, 36 RBI's, 41 runs scored, while going 8-for-8 in stolen bases. He has also posted a .528 slugging percentage and a .389 on base percentage.

Galasso is having a break-out senior season and has been a regular starter in 2013. He leads the team with a .335 batting average along with 32 RBI's, eight doubles, one triple, 27 runs scored, 67 hits and was 8-for-9 in stolen bases. Galasso ranks second in the NE-10 in hits, 12th in RBI's and batting average this season.

Martineson is batting .305 this season with 37 RBI's, 15 doubles, 42 runs scored, 58 hits, three triples, 42 runs scored and is 7-for-8 in stolen bases on the season. He is slugging .432 with an on base percentage of .377. In the NE-10, Martineson ranks second in RBI's, sixth in doubles, seventh in runs scored, 10th in hits and 11th in triples.

Viegas burst on the scene this season as he was named as one of the top rookies as part of the NE-10 All-Rookie squad. This season, he is batting .298 with 17 RBI's, four doubles, 34 hits, 15 runs scored and is 7-for-8 in stolen bases.

The Setters currently have a record of 32-15 overall and were Co-Champions of the NE-10 Southwest Division with a 15-7 record. Pace is ranked #4 in the most recent NCAA Division II East Region poll and will await a possible at-large bid to the NCAA Division II Tournament. The selection show will take place on Sunday, May 12 at 10 pm and will be streamed on http://ncaa.com.
