Hornung Tosses Two-Hitter As Setters Down New Haven 1-0

WEST HAVEN, Conn.- Jonathan Hornung (Calverton, NY/Riverhead) tossed a complete game two-hit shutout as the baseball got a late run to defeat the Chargers of the University of New Haven 1-0 in Northeast-10 Southwest Division action.
The Setters improve to 27-17 overall, 17-9 in the NE-10 and 15-3 in the Southwest, while the Chargers fall to 22-16, 13-12-1 in the conference and 9-8-1 in division play.

Pace leads the NE-10 Southwest Division by three games over Southern Connecticut and Le Moyne, both regionally ranked. The Setters are ranked #8 in this week’s NCAA Division II East Region poll with the top-6 teams in the region advancing to the NCAA Division II Tournament.
Despite 12 hits for Pace in the game, the Setters rallied in the late inning to account for the lone run of the game. Chris Roemer (Ardsley, NY/Ardsley) led off the eighth inning with a single and stole second. Roemer came around to score the go-ahead run on a double by Joe Lombardi (Briarcliff, NY/Briarcliff).
Hornung (4-3) was dominant on the mound as he allowed only two hits and walked three, while striking out five to earn the win in his third complete game of the season.
The Setters wrap up their regular season with a pivotal three-game Southwest Division series against the Owls of Southern Connecticut State University this weekend. The teams will play a doubleheader on Saturday, May 5 at noon at Finnerty Field and return on Sunday, May 6 for one game starting at 1 pm at Pace’s Finnerty Field.
