Local Rowing Team Wins Gold

Pleasantville's Ryan Sullivan among the gold-winning River Rowing Association Youth Team.

Junior rowers from the Nyack-based River Rowing Association (RRA) brought home gold again winning first place in both the Men’s Novice Quad and the Women’s JV Four on Sunday at the 2013 Cooper Cup in Pennsauken, NJ.

The Men’s Novice Quad had a winning time of 7:32.12, nearly 45 seconds ahead of the second place boat. The boat was powered by Adam Tantawi (Northern Valley Regional – Demarest), Tyler Jenss (Nyack), Milo Fradianni (Nyack), and Ryan Sullivan (Pleasantville).

The Women’s JV Four had a winning time of 8:22.30. The crew was made up of Catherine Rizzo (Academy of the Holy Angels), Paige Vignone (Academy of the Holy Angels), Veronica Czarnik (Clarkstown North), Mary Kate Vigneron (Academy of the Holy Angels).

“We were pleased to return to the Cooper Cup Regatta with over 50 rowers from New York and New Jersey,” declared Ivan Rudolph-Shabinsky, RRA president. “It was wonderful to leave having won gold in two events,” he said.

RRA’s Junior Competitive Team was one of 62 teams from Mid-Atlantic and New England states to compete in 36 different events in this annual event organized by the South Jersey Rowing Club.
