Pace Baseball Earns Bid to NCAA Division II Tournament

As the #5 seed, the Setters will play #2 St. Thomas Aquinas in Thursday's opening round.

PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y. - The Pace University Baseball team received an at-large bid as the #5 seed to the 2013 NCAA Division II Baseball Tournament. This marks the first trip to the NCAA's under Head Coach Henry Manning and only Pace's second appearance in the DII Tournament with their last trip coming in 1985. The Setters will take on #2 seed St. Thomas Aquinas in the first round of the double-elimination tournament which will take place at Southern New Hampshire University in Manchester, NH.

Pace finished the season at 32-15 overall and were Co-Champions of the Northeast-10 Southwest Division along with New Haven with a 15-6 record. The Setters were the #2 seed in the NE-10 Championship and fell to #3 Le Moyne in the first round.

The Setters are led by NE-10 First Team All-Conference selection James Pjura (Shelton, CT/Shelton) who is tied for fourth in the conference with 16 doubles, tied for fifth in RBI's with 36, homeruns with five and triples with four. Pjura is also tied for ninth with 41 runs, while also posting a .311 batting average and eight stolen bases. Charlie Galasso (West Harrison, NY/Harrison)was an NE-10 Second Team pick and leads the team with a .335 batting average. He ranks tenth in the NE-10 in batting average and is tied for 12th in RBI's with 32, while also adding eight doubles and eight stolen bases. NE-10 Third Team selection Brandon Martineson (Prospect, KY/Warwick) leads the team with 37 RBI's. He ranks second in the NE-10 in RBI's, sixth in doubles with 15, tied for seventh with 42 runs scored, and tied for 11th with three triples.

The first round of the 2013 NCAA Division II Baseball Tournament kicks off on Thursday, May 16 at Penmen Field on the campus of Southern New Hampshire University. The top seed Wilmington will take on #6 Franklin Pierce and #3 seed New Haven will face host and #4 seed Southern New Hampshire.
