Pace Football Season Comes to a Close

At homecoming in Pleasantville, the Setters fell to Stonehill College.

PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y.-  Senior and Homecoming game MVP David Lopez (Ozone Park, NY/Christ the King) tallied 16 tackles (nine solo), as Pace fell to Stonehill 43-7 in Northeast-10 Conference action. The Setters finish the 2012 campaign 0-9 overall and 0-8 in conference play, while the Skyhawks improve to 5-4 overall and 5-3 in conference play.

Stonehill registered the first points of the game as following a Chris Jimenez (Floral Park, NY/Floral Park Memorial) interception for Pace on Stonehill first drive, the Skyhawk defense forced a safety to go up 2-0 with 9:21 left in the first quarter. Stonehill quarterback Logan Meyer tossed two touchdown passes in the opening quarter to increase the Skyhawks lead to 16-0.

On Pace's ensuing drive quarterback, Jordan Raynor (Browns Mills, NJ/Pemberton) connected with Kyle Johnson (Elmont, NY/Elmont Memorial) for a 13-yard pick up, which brought the Setters to their own 46 yard line. Raynor added a key scramble for 14 yards and a Setters first down on Stonehill's 25 yard as he would later connect with junior Arvin Rai (Cresskill, NJ/Cresskill) for 21-yard touchdown strike as the Setters cut the score to 16-7.

The Setters would and Skyhawks would trade the football back and forth on downs, but Meyer would throw two touchdowns in the second and third quarter as Pace fell to the Skyhawks in their season finale.

On offense, Raynor threw for 172 yards on 15-for-34 passing while rushing for 44 yards. Patrick Lupfer (Mineola, NY./Kellenberg Memorial) caught for five balls for 31 yards, and Johnson caught three balls for 26 yards.

On defense, Tyler Zaro (Stamford, CT/Trinity Catholic) added ten tackles, while Vince Romano (Davenport, NY/Oneonta) had six tackles, including one for a loss, and a fumble recovery. Tyler Owens (Salem, NJ/Salem) totaled six tackles, one for a loss, and a fumble recovery, while Gerald Ford (Bronx, NY/Don Bosco Prep/Iona College) had six tackles, a forced fumble, a pass break-up, and a quarterback hurry. 

Today was also Senior Day as Pace recognized 11 of its graduating student-athletes. They include:Ryan Cuffe (Staten Island, NY/Saint Peters)Kyle Curran (Shaftsbury, VT/Worcester Academy), Gerald Ford, Lamar Francis (Yonkers, NY/Yonkers)Thaddeus Kowal (Pompton Lakes, NJ/DePaul) , David Lopez, Patrick Lupfer, Vince Romano, Eric Santos (Huntington, NY/Huntington)Matt Strizak (Fair Lawn, NJ/Don Bosco) and William Woodard (Walden, NY/Valley Central). Pace University President Stephen J. Friedman and Director of Athletics Mark Brown were on hand during the senior festivities to celebrate their Pace careers with their families. Homecoming 2012 was a success as Dean Lisa Bardill Moscoritolo announced the Homecoming King and Queen winner at halftime as well as several other awards for the campus organizations.
