Pace Improves to 2-0 as Shields Posts Double-Double

Brittany Shields continues to lead the Pace University Setters as the 2-0 season gets underway.

PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y.- Brittany Shields (Cold Spring, NY/Haldane) posted her second double-double in as many games as she finished with 19 points and 10 rebounds as the Setters held off the Golden Falcons of Felician College 62-54 in non-conference action. The Setters improve to 2-0, while the Golden Falcons fall to 0-3 on the season.

The Setters got off to an early lead at 14-8 but the Golden Falcons rallied back to pull ahead 21-17 with 8:12 left in the first half. Pace closed out the half strong with a 16-0 run to retake the lead and head to halftime in front 33-21.

Pace extended their to complete a 23-0 run as they took their largest lead of the game at 19 points as they held a 40-21 advantage with 17:55 remaining in the game. The Golden Falcons chipped away as they got as close as six points with 2:44 left in the game at 55-49. The Setters answered as Shields connected on a lay-up and Allison Cleary (New Windsor, NY/Cornwall Central) went 2-for-2 at the free throw line to push the lead back to 10 points. Pace hit 3-of-4 at the line in the final 30 seconds to hold off any late rally by Felician as the Setters remained unbeaten on the season.

For Pace, Shields led the way with her double-double while adding three assists and two steals. Shields also posted her 800th career rebound in the contest and ranks 11th all-time in school history. Yuni Sher (Poughkeepsie, NY/Long Island Lutheran) chipped in 10 points and three rebounds, while Jessica Scannell (Cork, Ireland/St. Vincent's/Iona College) added eight points, 10 assists and three steals. Margo Hackett (Pawling, NY/Pawling) totaled eight points and four rebounds for Pace.

The Setters return to action on Tuesday, November 20 as they will host American International College in a Northeast-10 Conference match-up at the Goldstein Fitness Center at 5:30 pm.
