Pace Men's Basketball Fall to New Haven

Pace University Setters fall to the charges of New Haven, CT.

WEST HAVEN, Conn.- The men's basketball team fell to the Chargers of New Haven 87-59 in Northeast-10 Conference action.  The two teams now have matching records at 3-4 in the NE-10 and 6-5 overall.The Chargers came out strong in the first half taking control early in the game. 

Pace was able to keep the point differential within seven points until New Haven started to pull away with it halfway through the first.  The Setters were able to come within ten before the Chargers were able to stretch the lead by 19 to go into the half.

The Setters shot 33.3% from the field, 50% from three-point range and 66.7% from the line while the Chargers shot 63.3% from the field, 50% from the outside and 80% from the free throw line.

The Setters were able to come within 17 points of the Chargers a couple times throughout the second half but the Chargers were able to maintain a healthy lead throughout. New Haven shot 39.4% from the field to the Setters 32.1% and 27.3% from three-point range with the Setters at 10% respectively.

The Chargers out-scored the Setters 32-16 in the paint, 14-10 on second chance attempts and 6-0 on fast breaks. The Chargers finished shooting 13-33 from the field, 3-11 from three-point range and 14-20 from the line while the Setters capped out at 18-55 from the field, 4-16 from the outside and 19-24 from the line. 

Eric Anderson finished with a double-double for the Chargers with 14 points and 11 rebounds while Justin Exum led the Chargers with 23 points.  Jeffery Adkins totaled 16 points, nine assists and seven rebounds while Cyrus James contributed 18 points. 

Despite the loss, Keon Williams (Hackensack, NJ / Hackensack/Iona College) led the Setters with 18 points and seven rebounds while Denzel Primus-Devonish (Riverdale, MD / St. John's College) followed with 14 points and three assists.  Jonathan Merceus (Union, NJ / Union)recorded 12 points and eight rebounds while Kai Smith (Upper Marlboro, MD / St. Mary's Ryken) added 11 points and eight rebounds. 

The Setters will host the Purple Knights of St. Michael's College on Wednesday, January 9 at 7:30 pm.
