Pace Softball Announces 2012 schedule

PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y. - Pace Softball has announced its upcoming 2012 season schedule. The Setters will look to improve on last season record of 20-29 overall and 12-17 in the Northeast-10 Conference. 

The 2011 Setters broke the single season records for home runs and hits as a team. Overall, the team ranked third overall in the NE-10 in team batting average, slugging percentage, total hits, runs scored and total bases as Pace posted one of its best offensive seasons in school history.

The Setters open the season March 3 on the road in Bowie, MD against Bowie St, and then the next day travel to Catholic University in Washington D.C. to face New York Tech in a non-conference doubleheader.

The Setters are back on the road less than 10 days later, as they will play eight games in just five days. The Setters will criss-cross North Carolina, as they face Barton College, Fayetteville St, and Chowan University on March 12, 13, and 14. The Setters finish off the southern road trip in Petersburg, VA against Virginia St. on March 16.

The Setters open up NE-10 Conference play on March 20 against The College of St. Rose, and the next day have a non-conference doubleheader against Caldwell College on March 21. The Setters are back on the road the weekend of the March 24-25, as they travel to New Haven face both the Owls of Southern Connecticut State, and the Chargers on New Haven. The Setters make a short-trip south to face Felician College in Lodi, NJ on March 27.

The Setters finish out March and open up April with a long home stand. The Setters face Le Moyne on March 28 and Stonehill on March 31 to round out the month. The Setters continue their home stand on April 1 as Pace hosts Bentley.

For the Bentley doubleheader, Pace Goes Pink to raise money for the Dickstein Cancer Treatment Center for White Plains Hospital. "Pace Goes Pink" t-shirts will be worn by the team and will be sold for $5 with all proceeds going to the cancer center. The Setters wrap up their stretch at home against Assumption on April 3.

The Setters head back out on the road in the heart of Northeast-10 conference play to face UMass-Lowell on April 6, Merrimack on April 7 and American Int’l on April 11. The Setters finish the road trip as they cross the Hudson to face the Chargers of Dominican College on April 13.

The Setters return home on April 14 to Briarcliff to face St. Michael’s for Softball Alumni Day. Pace will honor past Pace Softball greats during the doubleheader.

The next day on April 15, the Pace Softball will honor its hard working seniors for senior day prior to the doubleheader against Franklin Pierce. The Setters will play their final home game on April 17 as they will face Adelphi University.

The Setters will finish out the 2012 softball season on road against Bloomfield College on April 18, Southern New Hampshire on April 21 and St. Anselm on April 22.

The Setters return Lauren Bell (New Windsor, NY/Newburgh Free) for her senior season after she finished with a .452 batting average in 2011, which set the single season school record. 

She led the NE-10 in batting average, while ranking 12th nationally. She also ranked seventh in the nation in the Toughest to Strikeout category as she only struck out four times last season. Bell was a First Team NE-10 selection as well as a National Fastpitch Coaches’ Association and Daktronics Second Team All-Region selection.

Senior Sabrina Gonzalez (Oxnard, CA/Ventura College) is also back in the Setters’ lineup in center field as she led the team with 15 doubles last season. She earned NE-10 Second Team All-Conference Honors in 2011.

Senior Nicole Schultheis (Plainview, NY/Bethpage) is Pace’s mainstay in left field as she was named to the NE-10 All-Conference Third Team as she led the team with 11 stolen bases last year.

Sophomore Lana Buchbinder (San Francisco, CA/George Washington) burst onto the scene her freshman year as she led the team with nine homeruns to earn NE-10 All-Rookie honors in 2011.

Gentile and Oleksak Garner NE-10 Weekly Honors

PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y.-  Senior Cassandra Gentile (Cortland Manor, NY/Walter Panas) was named Northeast-10 Conference Diver of the Week, while freshman Hannah Oleksak (Blandford, MA/Williston Northhampton) earned  NE-10 Rookie of the Week Honors after posting solid efforts last week.

In a win over na­tionally ranked Bridgeport, Gentile won both the 1-meter and 3-meter diving events. She posted a score of 213.45 in the 1-meter event, while recording a score of 262.40 in the 3-meter event.

Oleksak posted three first-place finishes in two dual meets for the week. In a win over Adelphi, she won the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 2:05.43 and the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 5:38.34. In a win over nation­ally ranked Bridgeport, she won the 1000-yard freestyle with a time of 11:42.40.

In addition, sophomore Kaitlyn Lynch (Vallejo, CA/Solano CC) was named to the NE-10 Honor Roll after posting four first-place finishes in two meets. In a team win over Adelphi, won the 200-yard IM with a time of 2:23.52 and the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 59.95. In a win over No. 23 Bridgeport, she took first place finishes in the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 58.97 and the 200-yard backstroke with a time of 2:21.57.

The Setters return to action on Saturday, January 21 when they will travel to Syracuse, NY for their final dual meet of the season against Le Moyne College at 1 pm.
