Pace Softball Improves to 5-1
The Setters swept Virginia State in a doubleheader over the weekend.

PETERSBURG, Va.- The Pace softball team wrapped up their season opening road trip as they swept a doubleheader from Virginia State, taking the opening 7-1 and completing the sweep with a 4-1 win in the nightcap. The Setters improve to 5-1 overall, while the Trojans fall to 2-9 on the season.
In the opener, the Setters broke out with three runs in the opening inning behind RBI doubles for Erin Wood (Dover Plains, NY/Dover) and Chelsea Shea (Babylon, NY/West Babylon). Wood added an RBI single in the seventh as Pace scored twice in the fifth and two times in the seventh. Wood finished 3-for-4 in the game with two RBI's and scored two runs. Kelly Fisher (Castle Rock, CO/Douglas County) picked up her second win of the season as she tossed a complete game, allowing one run on nine hits.

In the nightcap, Shea doubled to lead off the third inning and scored as Lana Buchbinder (San Francisco, CA/George Washington) drove in the first Pace run of the second game. The Setters added three runs in the fifth to back pitcher Caitlin McCann (San Mateo, CA/Notre Dame). McCann (1-1) earned his first win of the season, as she tossed a complete game three-hitter, allowing one run and struck out five.
The Setters are back in action on Friday, March 8 as they take on Bowie State for the start of the Virginia Union Tournament.
