Setters Bats Rock Mavericks in Home Opening 10-0 Victory

PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y.- The Setters exploded for 10 runs on 13 hits as Pace was victorious in their home opener with a 10-0 over Mercy College in non-conference action. Pace improves to 3-0 on the season, while the Mavericks fall to 0-2 overall.
Pace got on the board in the opening inning as Kyle Turnier (Waterford, CT/Waterford) doubled with one out and scored on a single by Joe Solemeno (Holbrook, NY/Sachem East).

In the second, James Pjura (Shelton, CT/Shelton) singled and moved to second on a wild pitch. Brandon Martineson (Warwick, NY/Warwick Valley)singled in Pjura, while Martineson eventually scored later in the inning on a single by Chris Roemer (Ardsley, NY/Ardsley).
The Setters took advantage of a pair of errors by Mercy that allowed them to score three runs in the fourth inning. Pace tacked on a pair of runs in the six and two more in the seventh to account for the final runs.
Pjura went 3-for-4 on the day with a stolen base, an RBI and two runs scored, while Martineson went 2-for-2 with three runs scored and three stolen bases. Roemer drove in a pair of runs, while Solomeno and Turnier both wen 2-for-5 on the day.
The Setters were dominant on the mound as starter Michael Tamburino (Baldwin, NY/Holy Trinity) earned the win as he tossed six innings, allowing no hits, two walks, while striking out five. Nick Sammartano (Huntington Station, NY/Huntington) came on for his first save of the season as he tossed the final three innings, allowing one hit and struck out two.

Pleasantville played a hard-fought game in its boys sixth grade AA division contest Feb. 28, but fell to the Bedford BallerZ 28-24 in the Tri-County Basketball League.
