Pace Women's Soccer Looks to Build on Past Success

The Setters have brought on 17 new players to the Division II squad in Pleasantville.

PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y.- The Pace University Women's Soccer team opened their 2012 preseason camp this week as they look to build on their successes from last season. The Setters return a solid core of upperclassmen while adding 17 new players to this year's squad.

The Setters and Head Coach Mike Winn, the 2011 Northeast-10 Coach of the Year enter the 2012 season with high expectations after returning to the conference playoffs as the #7 seed for the first time since 2004. Leading the offensive attack will be sophomore Jillian Ferro (Warwick, NY/Warwick Valley) who is coming off a year in which she was the team's leading scorer. Ferro was named to the NE-10 Second team, NE-10 All-Rookie team and the NSCAA All-Region Third team. She also set the school record for freshman points and goals with eight and 20 respectively. The Setters also feature a standout senior class that includes Allyson Dyl (Kearny, NJ/Kearny),Olivia Mapplethorpe (Wilbraham, MA/Minnechaug Regional), Meghan Tremblay (Shrub Oak, NY/Lakeland), Seanna Wright (Poughkeepsie, NY/Arlington) and the all-time saves leader in school history Courtany Hagen (New Paltz, NY/New Paltz).

The Setters kick-off their season on September 1 and 2 as they will host a tournament against Mercy and Queens. Pace will take on Mercy on September 1 at 1 pm, while squaring off against Queens at 3 pm the next day. Pace will host Soccer Youth Day in their game against Merrimack College on Saturday, September 15 at 3:30 pm. Youth teams are invited to watch the NE-10 match up and be a part of game day. The Pleasantville American Youth Soccer Organization's (AYSO) U-14 team will scrimmage at halftime and serve as ball girls for the game.

The Student Athletic Advisory Committee (SAAC) in conjunction with the student organization College's Against Cancer, start year two of the "Pace Goes Pink" Campaign and soccer will host the second installment of this program on Saturday, October 13 in their home contest against Southern New Hampshire. "Pace Goes Pink" is a six team campaign to raise money for a local hospital's breast cancer center that runs throughout the 2012-13 school year.

The Setters will wrap up their regular season on Saturday, October 27 for senior day in a conference game against Saint Michael's at 12 pm.
