The Pace University women’s basketball team will travel to Southern Connecticut State University for the Semifinals of the Northeast-10 Championship. The Setters enter the game with a 20-7 record, while the Owls are 23-4 overall. Pace is making their sixth trip to the NE-10 semifinals, while the Owls have reached the semis for a fourth time. The Owls are ranked #18 in the latest USA Today/ESPN Top-25 Coaches Poll, while the Setters are receiving votes in the national poll. Pace is ranked #4 in this week’s NCAA Division II East Region Poll for a third straight week, while the Owls hold the #2 spot for a third consecutive week. The top-8 teams will be selected to advance to the NCAA Division II Tournament that will take place March 9-12.

Tickets prices for the game are $7 for adults and $4 for seniors and children under 10 years old. The ticket price for all students is $1 with valid ID.

Scouting the Pace Women’s Team 

The Setters are led by senior and First Team All-Conference selection Brittany Shields as she is averaging 17.3 points per game along with 10 rebounds per contest. Shields currently ranks fourth in the NE-10 in scoring and third in rebounds. Shields also ranks 13th in field goal percentage with a 50.7% mark, while placing third with 12 double-doubles on the season.

Senior Carol Johnson is averaging 10.5 points and 2.8 assists, while Kerri White leads the team with 61 triples on the season. White leads the conference in three-point shooting as she is shooting 44.2% from long range this season. The Setters eliminated the Greyhounds of Assumption College in the NE-10 Quarterfinals 60-50 this past Sunday. White led the Setters with 12 points, six rebounds and six steals. Johnson scored 11 points, while Shields grabbed a game-high 14 rebounds.

Scouting the Owls Women’s Team 

The Owls are led by NE-10 Second Team selection Sylvonya Moore as she is averaging 14.5 points 5.5 rebounds and 3.1 assists per game. Camille Fantini, a Third Team NE-10 selection, is second on the team in scoring with 12.6 points along with 6.2 rebounds per game. Moni Smith-Ocran is third in scoring with 10.2 points and leads the team with 10.1 rebounds per game. The Owls eliminated Saint Rose 64-60 in overtime in the NE-10 Quarterfinals this past Sunday. Moore led the Owls with 17 points, nine rebounds and five assists. Smith-Ocran posted a double-double with 12 points and 16 rebounds, while Fantini finished with 14 points, nine rebounds and five steals.

All-Time Against the Owls

This will be the 33rd all-time meeting between the two schools with Southern Connecticut holding the advantage in the all-time series at 18-14. The teams split a pair of meetings during the regular season as Pace took the first match-up in November 46-42 in a game at Southern Connecticut. The Owls evened the season series as they came to Pleasantville in February and came away with a 70-57 win.

Career Milestone Watch 

For the women, Shields has moved into eighth place school history with 1,312 points, while ranking 11th in Pace history in rebounds with 763. White is seventh in school history with 99 triples in a Pace uniform, while totaling 136 three-pointers for her collegiate career (37 at Manhattan College). Johnson recently became the 22nd player in school history to join to 250-assist club as she has dished out 256 assists for her career. Allison Cleary is ranked 15th in school history with 65 trifectas for her Pace career, while Margo Hackett is currently eighth on the Pace freshman three-point list with 27 this season.

Next Up for the Setters

The winner of the Thursday’s game will advance to the NE-10 Championship Game on Sunday, March 4 at 1 pm and will take on the winner of the other semifinal game between #4 Franklin Pierce and #1 Bentley.
