Photos: Pleasantville Hosts a Day of Ping Pong

Examiner Media sponsors all-day event at the Westchester Table Tennis Center.

Examiner Media sponsored an all-day table tennis party at in Pleasantville Saturday. Visitors got to play for free with paddles, balls and refreshments also provided.

The center is owned by New York Times' crossword puzzle editor Will Shortz and managed by nationaly ranked player Robert Roberts. The event featured the first annual "Examiner Cup" competition between local politicians including mayors, town supervisors, assemblymen and assemblywomen, legislators and county executives with the $250 first prize donated by Shortz to the winner's local government or charity of their choice.

Players from across the Hudson Valley and several neighboring states participated.

Pleasantville Mayor Peter Scherer, White Plains Mayor Tom Roach, Assemblywoman Sandy Galef, Brewster Village Clerk Peter Brewster Hansen, Westchester County Legislator Peter Harckham, Putnam County Executive MaryEllen Odell, New Castle Supervisor Susan Carpenter, Greenburgh Supervisor Paul Feiner, Assemblyman Steve Katz, White Plains Councilman David Buchwald, Mount Pleasant Supervisor Joan Maybury, and Assemblyman Robert Castelli.

Hansen won the tournament, defeating Feiner in the final round.
