Pleasantville Dads Compete for First Cornhole Title

64 dads. 32 teams. 8 neighborhoods.

Not a bad turnout for the first ever Pleasantville Cornhole Tournament on a rainy September weekend.

"The whole tournament was conceived as a way for neighbors to meet each other," wrote Greg Doran, event organizer and captain of the Midtown North team, in an email. "In that regard it was a huge success and hopefully now a great yearly tradition for local dads to get together for a day."

While the group was forced to move indoors on Saturday, a local business opened its doors to allow the show to go on.

"This tournament was supposed to be held at , but because of the rain we had to scramble at the last minute and [] in Pleasantville was very accommodating and allowed us to use their private room for half the normal cost," explained Chris Beck, captain of the Pierce Drive team.

Other participating teams and captains included Ross Galin (Locust Road), Rob Slocum (Midtown South), Mike Sanborn (Weskora Avenue), Dan Kashman (Mountain Road), Mark Valente (Lake Shore Drive) and John Vamossy (Lake Street/Bear Ridge Road).

"Each of them did an amazing job organizing a huge group of great guys for the day," Doran said.

Ultimately, Doran said, "The Locusts took down the Midtown North guys in an epic final."

Beck added Shoprite provided food, including a custom Cornhole cake, for the event.

"We owe a huge thanks to the Westchester Table Tennis folks for accommodating us last minute as well as ShopRite," Doran noted. "Not to mention all of our beautiful wives for dealing with hundreds of kids dadless on a Saturday."
