Raynor Tosses 4 TDs in Loss to S. Connecticut

The Pace University Setters fell to 0-6 this season on Saturday.

PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y. — Quarterback Jordan Raynor (Browns Mills, NJ/Pemberton) tossed four touchdown passes as the Setters fell to Southern Connecticut State University 47-26 in Northeast-10 Conference action. The Setters fall to 0-6 overall and 0-5 in the NE-10, while the Owls improve to 2-4 and 2-2 in conference play.

Southern Connecticut got on the board with a pair of Jacob Jablonski touchdown passes and the Owls added a pair of rushing touchdowns to take a 27-0 lead midway through the second quarter. The Setters defense stopped the Owls on downs late in the second quarter deep in Pace territory. Pace geared up their offense as Blair Wynn (Englewood, NJ/St. Joseph Regional) rushed for 34 yards to move the ball into Owl territory. Raynor hit Matt Tarpley (Caruthersville, MO/Wayzata/Univ. of Mississippi) for a key 31 yard connection and the Setters got on the board as Raynor connected with Patrick Lupfer (Mineola, NY/Kellenberg) from 10 yard out as the Setters trailed 27-7 at halftime. Lupfer and Tarpley both went over 100 receiving yards in the game.

The Owls added a score midway through the third quarter but the Setters answered on the ensuing drive as Raynor hit Lupfer for a 54-yard catch and run touchdown for the second Pace touchdown of the afternoon.  

The Setters added to the point total early in the fourth quarter as Raynor connected with Tarpley on a 22-yard pass play to get the ball to the Southern Connecticut 22-yard line. Raynor again hit Tarpley for an 18-yard touchdown connection. Pace scored on the final drive of the game as Wynn got the Setters going with a 27 yard run to move the offense to the Owl 26-yard line. Four play later, Raynor connected for his four TD pass of the day, hitting Cameron Davis (Ponte Vedra Beach, FL/Providence) from 11-yards out.

For Pace, Raynor completed 18-of-31 passes for 251 yards and four touchdowns, while Wynn finished with nine carries for 71 yards. Tarpley edged out Lupfer for the top receiving yards at 104-102, while both players caught six passes from Raynor. On defense, David Lopez (Ozone Park, NY/Christ the King) led the Setters with 14 total tackles, while Vincent Romano(Davenport, NY/Oneonta) added 12.  Ryan Cuffe (Staten Island, NY/St. Peter's) added 11 tackles and a half sack, while Joe Roman (Staten Island, NY/St. Joseph) finished with 10.Mark Lherission (Brooklyn, NY / Erasmus Hall/ASA College) posted 1.5 sacks, while Gerald Ford (Bronx, NY/Don Bosco Prep/Iona College) tallied a sack.

The game also featured Blue Out Hazing event sponsored by Greek Life and there was also an exciting Greek Olympics at halftime of the game. The Pace University Drumline and cheerleaders were also on hand performing throughout the game.

The Setters hit the road next Saturday, October 13 as they will travel to Manchester, NH for a Northeast-10 Conference game against Saint Anselm College at 1 pm.
