Setters Win in Comeback Thriller Over Franklin Pierce, 62-57

PLEASANTVILLE, NY- Kerri White (Flushing, NY/Archbishop Molloy) led the Setters in a come-from-behind win over the Ravens of Franklin Pierce. The Setters advance to 14-3 overall and 11-1 in the NE-10 while the Ravens drop to 11-6 overall and 8-5 in conference play.

The Setters started the game off strong taking the lead early and maintaining a slight lead through the first eight minutes of the game. The Ravens took their first, largest and only lead of the first half at 12:07 by one.

The Setters went on a run to go up by six. A turnover by the Ravens with 5:35 in the game turned into a lay-up by White and gave the Setters their largest lead of the day, by eight, before heading into halftime up, 32-28.

The second half didn’t go as easily for the Setters as they lost the lead three minutes into it. Franklin Pierce went up by as much as 11 points on the Setters eight minutes into the half.

Pace slowly chipped away at the point deficit and managed to tie it up at 55-55 on a triple by Margo Hackett (Pawling, NY/Pawling) with 3:55 left. The Setters would go down one more time before two layups by Carol Johnson (New City, NY/Cardinal Spellman) put the Setters up by two points. 

Franklin Pierce was in the bonus and sent White to the line where she made both beforeBrittany Shields (Cold Spring, NY/Haldane) contributed the final point of the game on a foul shot to solidify the win. 

Both Pace and Franklin Pierce scored 30 points in the paint and six points on fast breaks but Pace scored 21 points off of turnovers to Franklin Pierce’s 15 and Pace’s bench scored 14 points to their six.   

The Ravens shot 39.% from the field, 35.3% from three point range and only 58.3% from the line.  The Setters were a bit more consistent, shooting 40.4% from the field, 50% from deep range and 83.3% from the foul line.

Jewel White and Marielle Giroud both scored double-doubles for the Ravens with White contributing 15 points and 14 rebounds and two steals and Giroud with 11 points, ten rebounds and three assists. 

Amanda Saab put up 14 points, seven rebounds and two assists. Lekia Cown added eight points and three assists while Kate McDonald finished with four assists, three points and one steal.

White led the day in scoring with 17 points and also added eight rebounds, two assists and four steals.  Johnson and Hackett both scored 14 points apiece and Allison Cleary (New Windsor, NY/Cornwall Central) led the day in assists with four.  

Shields finished with seven points, 11 rebounds, an assist, a block and a steal.  Maral Javadifar (Flushing, NY/Mary Louis Academy) contributed eight points, five rebounds, two assists and three steals. 

The Setters return to action as they will host the Warriors of Merrimack College on January 25 at 5:30 pm.

 

Setters Drop NE-10 Game To Franklin Pierce

PLEASANTVILLE, NY- The Setters came up short to the Ravens of Franklin Pierce University 74-64 in Northeast-10 Conference action. Pace falls to 8-9 overall and 6-7 in the NE-10, while the Ravens improve to 13-4 and 9-4 in conference play.

A close first half that featured five tied and seven lead changes broke in the Setters’ favor late in the half as Pace surged into the lead. Denzel Primus-Devonish (Riverdale, MD/St. John’s College) connected on a pair of three-pointers, while David Eismeier (Burke, VA/Bishop O’Connell) hit another trifecta in the final two minutes as Pace pulled ahead 35-28 with 1:09 left in the half. The Ravens got a late hoop but Pace held a five point advantage at the break.

The Ravens chipped away at the Setter lead as they took a one-point lead on a three-point play by Eric Jean Guillaume. The team traded leads over the next seven with Pace taking a 55-52 lead with 6:34 left in the game.

Franklin Piece rallied as they scored the next 11 points to take an eight point lead at 63-55 with under three minutes to play in the contest. The Setters got as close as seven points in the final two minutes but the Ravens went 7-for-8 from the line down the stretch to hold off the Setters.

For Pace, Primus-Devonish finished with a season-high 27 points along with seven rebounds and five assists. Keon Williams (Hackensack, NJ/Hackensack/Iona College) was a force in the paint as he finished with 18 points and eight rebounds.

The Setters return to action on Wednesday, January 25 as Pace will host the Warriors of Merrimack College for Northeast-10 Conference game at 7:30 pm. 

 

Big boys hoops game

Pleasantville and host Croton-Harmon hooked up in a huge boys basketball game Jan. 20 with the visiting Panthers coming out on top 48-47.

Glen Robinson led the Panthers with 16 points and teammate Jack Eisenberg contributed 10 points.

Ian Thom scored a game-high 18 points for the Tigers.
