Two of Westchester's own have been given a shot at the 2014 Winter Olympics.
Bill Stopera of Briarcliff Manor and Martin Sather of Hastings, members of Team McCormick, brought home gold medals over the weekend from the 2012 USA Curling National Championship.
Heath McCormick of Ontario and Dean Gemmell of Short Hills, NJ, round out the team that overthrew the reigning champions 5-4 in Aston, Pa, on Saturday.
The two locals will now represent Team USA in the 2012 World Men's National Curling Championship in Basel, Switzerland coming up from March 31-April 8.
Next year, they will also enter the trials for the 2014 Winter Olympics.
"It's incredible. It's super exciting. It's just kind of setting in at the moment," McCormick commented after the win, according to a press release.
Team McCormick reached the finals this year with an undefeated record.
"McCormick sealed the win with his first rock of the final end—a freeze that made Fenson's final shot one with a high degree of difficulty," the statement reported.
