Shields Double-Double Leads Setters to Eighth Consecutive Win

We thank the Sports Information Department for the below submission:

Pleasantville, N.Y.- Senior Brittany Shields (Cold Spring, NY/Haldane)  led the Setters to their eighth consecutive win this season over the Warriors of Merrimack College, 73-64.  The Setters advance to 15-3 overall and 11-3 in the NE-10 while the Warriors drop to 3-15 overall and 2-12 in conference play.

Merrimack took their largest lead of the game in the first basket of the game, a three-point play. Pace took over and took the lead early in the first and led by four at the halfway point.

They slowly turned that lead into their largest of the game at the 7:44 mark on a triple by Victoria Jones (Staten Island, NY/St. Peter's) to lead by 12.

The Warriors then began to aggressively chip away at Pace’s lead, tied at the 4:03 mark and took their first lead at 3:38 on a three-point play. The two teams would tie one more time at 2:53, 29-29 and encounter two more lead changes before the half.

A jump shot by Kerri White (Flushing, NY/Archbishop Molloy) put the Setters up 33-29 but and a layup by the Warriors left the Setters down one 33-34 heading into halftime.

Pace and Merrimack shot the same in the paint, totaling 16 points for both teams. Pace had eight more points off of turnovers, two more off of second-chance opportunities and scored six more points of their bench in the first half.

Pace went 3-8 from the three-point line and 13-34 on field goals where Merrimack went 4-10 from the outside and 13-32 from the field.

The teams would fight tooth and nail for each point, tie three more times and see three lead changes throughout the second half. The Setters were able to regain the lead with the first shot of the second half, a layup by Shields

The Warriors would tie it up again at 40-40 at 17:42. The Setters managed to take and eight point lead on a layup byCarol Johnson (New City, NY/Cardinal Spellman) at 13:39.

The Warriors, once again, were able to chip away at the Setters lead and tied it up at the 7:20 mark.  The teams would tie for the last time, 56-56 at 6:35 before Pace took the final lead of the game.

The Warriors came within two points in the last 1:25 but foul trouble sent Pace to the line four times to round out the last minute of the game.

The Warriors finished with a field-goal percentage of 42.4% and a three-point percentage of 43.8% where Pace shot 40% from the field and 38.5 from downtown. Merrimack and Pace both scored 32 points in the paint but Pace held the advantage on points off turnovers 22-13, second-chance opportunities 13-6 and points off the bench 8-4.

Kelly Schatzlein finished with a double-double for the Warriors with 22 points, 14 rebounds, two steals and two blocks. Allison Wagner finished with 14 points, six rebounds, five assists and a steal while Gennifer Roy added 12 points, three rebounds, four assists, a block and a steal.

Chloe Rothman contributed ten points, two rebounds, two assists and a steal.

Shields finished with a double-double of 22 points, 12 rebounds and added four assists and a steal for the Setters. White finished with 14 points, two rebounds, three assists and two steals while Maral Javadifar (Flushing, NY/The Mary Louis Academy) added 11 points, four rebounds and an assists and steal.

Allison Cleary (New Windsor, NY/Cornwall Central) ended with ten points while Johnson contributed eight points, five rebounds, three assists and two steals.
