After Coyote Sightings, Pleasantville Mayor Offers Tips

Pleasantville's Mayor says it's best to make noise and act aggressively if you encounter a coyote in the neighborhood.

Noting that coyotes are "a regional problem," Mayor Peter Scherer said Monday that residents should take precautions after multiple residents recently reported spotting the wild animals in the village.

"We've got a flyer that was put together by some animal behavior organizations," Scherer said, noting the literature will be shared on the village's website.

The Mayor noted, "coyotes are by and large shy animals," and said it's best for residents to be loud and throw items toward coyotes if they come face-to-face, such as "rubber balls."

"Don't be quiet and run away," Scherer advised.
