Why Was Briarcliff's Pool Closed Last Week?

Village Manager Philip Zegarelli answered the frequently asked question in his weekly update.

Briarcliff Manor's village pool was shut down suddenly last week in the midst of seemingly good weather.

In his latest update, Village Manager Philip Zegarelli explains:

"There was no storm event, winds or rain…but similar to what we reported last week, there are many storm related, damaged trees out there barely holding on. I realize that this sounds a bit eerie or mysterious but many of our trees have been battered these last several years and in particular this spring. While they may not appear to be in danger of coming down, they are in distress and may “just give up” for no apparent cause or reason. This happened this week when a tree on the west side of Pleasantville Road, across from our tennis courts, suddenly came down to rest on the primary 13KV power lines. The tree crossed the 3-phase lines tripping the transformer serving both Atria and the pool complex. WCDOH regulations and common sense call for the orderly evacuation of the pool and area immediately. Power was restored later that night and our staff was able to reset the filtration and sprinkler systems quickly for the next day’s opening."
