Hudson Hills to Host Golf Outing for Vets

New Castle golf course is hosting the "World's Largest Golf Outing."

Hudson Hills Golf Course, located in New Castle's West End, will be one of several throughout the country that is participating in what is being called The World's Largest Golf Outing.

The Monday event is among more than 100 that will be going on at the same time, across 27 states, as part of the initiative.

The outing is being overseen by Billy Casper Golf and has a charitable purpose. Teams assembled are raising money to benefit the Wounded Warrior Project, which helps veterans injured in duty.

Among those participating is New Castle town Councilman John Buckley, who has his own fundraising team and has raised $1,200 so far, according to the organization's website.

"It's just a wonderful event for a wonderful cause," Buckley said.

There will be several New Castle town employees partcipating, including those from the police department and the Department of Public Works, Buckley said.

"There's a big contingent from the town coming," he said.

The event will include an 18-hole scramble format and a 4-person team, with no official handicap needed.

"The Scramble Format is often used in amateur events such as this," according to a primer for the outing. "The 4-Person Scramble format is a fun way to play events and allows players of all abilities to play together. In a scramble, each player tees off on each hole. The best of the tee shots is selected and all players play their second shots from that spot. The best of the second shots is determined, then all play their third shots from that spot, and so on until the ball is holed."

The outing starts at 1 p.m. on Monday. Hudson Hills, which is about 7,000 yards and a par 71 course, is located at 400 Croton Dam Road, in the Ossining postal zone.
