Fiddler on the Roof

Where/When: Westlake High School (825 Westlake Dr., Thornwood) on Friday, Aug. 2 at 8 p.m.; Saturday, Aug. 3 at 8 p.m. and Sunday, Aug. 4 at 2 p.m.
Why go: A number of locals will be taking part in the Mount Pleasant Community Theater production of Fiddler on the Roofthis weekend and next. Pleasantville's Rich Murden will portray Lazar Wolf, the butcher, in the production. Purchase tickets in advance here.
Pricing: $20 adults; $15 seniors/students

With Demetri's Help Blood Drive

Where/WhenBriarcliff Manor Public Library on Saturday, Aug. 3 from 10:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.
Why go: Friends and supporters will continue to honor the memory of 2009 Briarcliff High School graduate Demetri Demeropoulos, who passed away at just 18 from cancer. Stop by the library Saturday to donate blood through the New York Blood Center and visit the With Demetri's Help Foundation website for more information.

Pleasantville Farmers Market

Where/When: Memorial Plaza parking lot in Pleasantville on Saturday, Aug. 3 from 8:30 to 1 p.m.
Why go: Pleasantville's outdoor summer market continues with its usual variety of vendors this week, plus some special events. On Saturday, a nutritionist will be on-hand to talk about all about breastfeeding for World Breastfeeding Week. Kids can join Kat and Greg Nemec for a craft from 9:30 to 11 a.m. and shoppers will hear the sounds of jazz guitarist Bill Galanin performing from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. Or you can expedite your shopping by taking a look at the market's new interactive vendor map here before you go.

Ossining FD Parade

Where/When: Begins at Croton Avenue/Campwoods Road on Friday, Aug. 2 at 7 p.m.
Why go: The annual Ossining Fire Department parade kicks off Friday evening, featuring an array of local and regional fire department personnel and apparatus. The parade heads down Croton Avenue to Route 9 to Main Street and Secor Road, ending at the Ossining waterfront. 
Pricing: Free

14th Annual Heritage of India Festival

Where/When: Kensico Dam Plaza in Valhalla on Sunday, Aug. 4 from 12:30 to 6:30 p.m.
Why go: The festival will feature the delicious foods of India, live music, folk dancing and cultural performances. There will also be a fashion show showcasing colorful native clothing. Festival-goers can create their own cultural fashion by decorating themselves with Mehndi, the henna bridal make-up that dates back to ancient India. Visitors can also browse a merchandise bazaar where a variety of vendors will be selling Indian clothing, jewelry, CDs, DVDs and delicious Indian cuisine. Traditional Rangoli art and other craft exhibitions will be on display as well.


Eight-Legged Wonders

Where/WhenTeatown Lake Reservation (1600 Spring Valley Rd. Ossining) on Saturday, Aug. 3 from 1 to 2 p.m.
Why go: If you don't mind getting up close with eight-legged arachnids, stop by Teatown Saturday afternoon to investigate spiderwebs and find out how it manages to coordinate all of its limbs. Call 762-2912 ext. 110 to reserve a spot.
Pricing: $5 nonmembers; free for members

2014 Miss Westchester & Miss Hudson Valley Pageants

Where/When: White Plains Performing Arts Center (11 City Pl. White Plains) on Saturday, Aug. 3 at 4 p.m.
Why go: Young women ages 14-26 from Westchester County and the Hudson Valley Region will compete for the chance to become Miss Westchester, Miss Westchester Teen, Miss Hudson Valley and Miss Hudson Valley Teen. Contestants will compete in the categories of Swimsuit, Evening Gown, Judges Interview and On-Stage Question. The winners will go on to represent Westchester and Hudson Valley at the Miss New York USA and Miss New York Teen USA competitions at Purchase College Performing Arts Center in January. Pleasantville's Jordan Decker is among the participants. Purchase tickets in advance here.
