Prestigious Nagmén Choir Visits Pleasantville

Argentina’s Nagmén Choir, one of the world’s premier versatile choirs, will be at the Presbyterian Church of Pleasantville on Saturday, Jan. 18 to perform a rare, free concert. The concert begins at 7 p.m. and is free to the public. Donations will be accepted. The Pleasantville Chamber Music Society’s thirty-seventh season continues on Sunday, January 19, with a concert featuring the Sospiro Winds. The concert, which is free to the public, will be held at the Presbyterian Church, 400 Bedford Rd., Pleasantville, NY. It begins at 3 p.m. The program features four pieces from the 1920s:

  • George Gershwin: Three Preludes (1926)
  •  Paul Hindemith: Kammermusik (1921-1928)
  • Kurt Weill: Songs from The Threepenny Opera (arr. Kay)
  • Carl Nielsen: Quintet (1922)

Hailed a “superb ensemble” by New Music Connoisseur, New York-based Sospiro Winds has established itself as an exciting new force on the chamber music scene. Originally formed in 2004, the ensemble began performing while at the Yale School of Music. Since then, Sospiro has continued its efforts to bring the wind quintet repertoire to many varied audiences throughout the United States. For more information, click here

Free Musical Theatre Workshop

In this two-hour free workshop held in the Briarcliff Public Library on Saturday, Jan. 18 at 1:30 and sponsored by Laura Evans and Janice Noto Helmers of TAWK (Theater Adventure Workshop for Kids), children ages 6-12 will learn a few musical theater acting, singing, and dancing tips and tricks, while rehearsing a short scene from the play Peter Pan. Parents are invited to view their work at briefly at 3:30 p.m. when the workshop is completed. Good-Life Gourmet's Pop Up Restaurant in Irvington

Chef Eric Korn of Good-Life Gourmet is taking over Irvington’s Cupcake Kitchen this weekend. “Restaurant Maize” features Korn’s upscale twist on traditional Mexican dishes. Think tender duck served with peanut mole and corn pudding sharing a plate with crispy mushrooms and tangy greens. (See complete menu.) Guests will order three-courses off an a la carte menu served family-style on a hand-carved wood plank. Two limited seatings — 7 p.m. and 8:30 p.m. — will be offered starting Thursday, Jan. 16 to Saturday, Jan. 18. Birding Hike at Westmoreland Sanctuary

During the winter the Westmoreland Sanctuary experiences some new birds visiting for the season. Come out to enjoy a morning walk while looking for the birds that tough out the cold winter on Saturday, Jan. 18 at 11 a.m. Be sure to dress for the weather and bring a pair of binoculars. Free for members of Westmoreland and $5 per person (adults and children) for non-members.
