Westchester Open This Weekend in Pleasantville

From the Westchester Table Tennis Center:

This weekend, June 22-23, some of the best table tennis players in the country will meet in Westchester to vie for $5,000; first prize is $1,500. The players include Canada’s Eugene Wang, the reigning U.S. Open champion, & Westchester’s own Kai Zhang, 15, winner of the 2013 Eastern Table Tennis Open and the fifth-highest-rated player in the United States.

Athletes will compete in 17 categories based on skill level and age. A special event will be held for unrated players, competing for the first time, starting Sunday at 11 am.

The Westchester Open is held at the Westchester Table Tennis Center, 175 Tompkins Ave., in Pleasantville. The competition will run on Saturday and Sunday from 10 am to 7 pm each day. The top players will compete on Sunday starting at 2 pm, with the final taking place at approximately 6 pm.

The Westchester Table Tennis Center, owned by the New York Times crossword editor, Will Shortz, is the largest table tennis facility in the U.S. It is managed by Robert Roberts, three- time table tennis champion of the Caribbean and a competitor in four World Table Tennis Championships.

Spectators are invited for free. Competitors can register online www.westchestertabletennis.com. or at the door on the day of the tournament.
