And it has its own dance club right downstairs! We met friends there last Saturday night and were thrilled by both the food and the atmosphere.
The bar upstairs was packed when we arrived at 8, so we went to the bar downstairs for some tequila cocktails and coronas, an appropriate choice for Cinco de Mayo, and lounged on cushioned banquettes and backless stools at low candle lit tables while we waited for our meal to begin.
From there, we went upstairs for our 9pm reservation and the crowd began to swell. Once seated, we were immediately greeted with warm bread with a pumpkin and white bean spread ~ delicious! I'm a vegan so that was a quick fan fave, and then I tried the fried plantains in a garlic aoili...they were not at all greasy, nicely seasoned and the dressing was phenomenal. Meanwhile, my husband and our friends could not stop raving about the beef & chicken empanadas and the sorullitos de maiz con queso de papa, a corn fritter filled with gooey cheese.
For the entree course, I considered the watercress & avocado salad in a citrus vinaigrette and an alternate with white beans and hearts of palm, but I was stuffed so I settled on steamed veggies with more of that fabulous dressing from the plantains. I also sampled the rice and beans and the super garlicky sauteed spinach which were also very good. My co-diners raved about their steak, pulled pork and carmelized plantains...they also offer plenty of soups, rellenos, arepas, bunellos, seafood dishes and decadent desserts.
And the price tag didn't hurt either: the total bill came to $92 per couple, 5-6 cocktails included!
Next time you're looking for a hot and spicy night out, be sure to try Sofrito for dinner and a salsa!
